Key Duties

The Utility Systems Repairer-Operator plays a critical role in maintaining and operating utility systems within Katmai National Park and Preserve. Responsibilities include:

  • Operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical, water, wastewater, and other utility systems to ensure continuous and safe service.

  • Monitoring system performance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and implementing corrective measures.

  • Performing preventative maintenance to protect park infrastructure and comply with federal standards.

  • Responding promptly to emergencies or utility failures, including off-hour and seasonal incidents.

  • Keeping accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and operational procedures.

  • Collaborating with facilities staff to support park operations and visitor services.

This role requires a combination of technical skill, problem-solving, and adherence to safety protocols to maintain reliable park utilities.

Requirements
  • Proven experience in utility system operations, maintenance, and repair.

  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or mechanical systems commonly used in remote or seasonal facilities.

  • Ability to work independently and handle emergencies in a timely and effective manner.

  • Capability to follow safety procedures, operational manuals, and federal regulations.

  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, climbing, and operating tools or machinery.

  • Strong record-keeping and communication skills to document work and coordinate with the team.
