Salary: $68,976 – $84,138 annually
The Combination Building Inspector at Boulder County performs inspections across multiple trades, including building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Inspecting commercial and residential construction, remodeling, and repairs for compliance with local codes and ordinances.
- Conducting annual and bi-annual inspections for marijuana, liquor, vacation rental, and short-term rental licenses.
- Reviewing construction plans and related documents to identify discrepancies between approved plans and ongoing work.
- Advising contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders on corrections and compliance with building standards.
- Staying current on building code updates and recommending modifications to county officials.
- Evaluating engineer letters and construction documentation for compliance with soils, foundations, structural framing, fire suppression, insulation, and sanitary requirements.
- Providing guidance and training to new team members as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least four years of experience in the building trades, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of building construction methods and relevant codes, including electrical codes.
- Ability to identify hazards, violations, and recommend corrective actions.
- Preferred: State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician license, or eligibility for a Commercial and Residential Electrical Inspector License. Bilingual Spanish-English skills are a plus.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and the public.
- Vacation: 80-hour bank at hire plus 8 hours/month accruals for vacation and medical leave.
