Alberta Health is seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Tester to support the planning, execution, and maintenance of testing initiatives across provincial health systems and applications.
This role is essential to ensuring the quality and conformance of Alberta Health’s critical IT systems. The successful candidate will work closely with business and technical teams to create and maintain both manual and automated test suites, ensure the delivery of quality software solutions, and support robust user acceptance processes.
Role Responsibilities
The Tester position is responsible for working with the internal business teams, team members, and external vendors closely to execute the application testing activities for Alberta Health Information Technology (IT) initiatives. The position plays a role in planning and executing manual and automated test cases, identifying, and documenting issues, and reporting the testing status and results to stakeholders.
As Alberta Health IT initiatives move towards requiring complex and integrated IT solutions, supporting the test planning and execution in holistic perspective is required. It is also critical to support business teams for the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Conformance Testing activities.
To be effective, the position must perform creation and maintenance of the manual and/or automated test suites for Alberta Health applications by using tools such as Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) software. This position also assists business teams by providing the test data support by accessing database, automated tools, and/or the integrated applications to create new data manually or by using data creation scripts.
Tasks performed by the position includes:
1. Provide testing support for application development, enhancement, and maintenance projects and contribute to a base of testing practices that can be shared and reused.
2. Provide support for third party health system vendor as part of Conformance testing activities.
3. Maintain communications between internal IT teams, application business teams, and application development and maintenance teams, vendor teams, and project teams.
4. Configure, manage, maintain, execute, and provide support for Testing Tools and Automation Tools for application development/maintenance projects.

Qualifications
A related two-year diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Technology or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution; or equivalent as described.
Equivalency:
A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and one year of related experience. An industry recognized certification from a credible source, such as ISC2, may be used in place of the one-year certificate.
Preference will be given to individuals with the following assets:
• Experience with Software Development and Testing Lifecycles.
• Experience with complex integrated IT solutions.
• Experience working with Information technology solution vendors.
• Experience working in healthcare related field.
• Experience with HL7 FHIR, HL7 V2. V3, System to System messages and/or ETL.
• Experience working in IT Quality Assurance and Quality Control field (such as preparing and executing test strategies, plans, test scenarios, test cases and test data).
• Experiences with software testing related tools such as test management, defect management, and test automation.
• Knowledge and experience performing testing activities in various levels of testing (such as integration, acceptance).
• Knowledge and experience executing various types of testing ( such as functional, non-functional).
• Knowledge and experience working in Alberta’s digital health / eHealth ecosystem and with Alberta’s health system stakeholders.
• Software Testing and/or Quality Assurance global certifications from industry-recognized organizations (i.e. ISTQB or QAI certification).

Notes
This is a full-time temporary position until August 31, 2027.
Hours of Work
7.25 hours daily/36.25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday.
Location
This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).
