Tenure-track Assistant Professor: Quantum Finance
Finance, Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary
The Finance (FNCE) Area at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Quantum Finance. The appointment start date is July 1, 2026.
We are seeking candidates whose research focuses on FinTech and emerging technologies in financial markets, and who demonstrate a strong interest in engaging with quantum research. While prior work in quantum technologies is not required, the successful candidate should show clear potential and willingness to contribute to a growing stream of research in Quantum Finance. This includes exploring how quantum computing, algorithms, cryptography, and sensing can be applied to financial markets, in alignment with the University of Calgary’s Quantum City initiative.
Candidates must have:
• A PhD in Finance, Economics, or a closely related field, completed or expected to be within one year of the date of appointment.
• Evidence of excellence in research, as demonstrated through a high-quality job market paper, working papers, and a strong pipeline of future research. Seasoned candidates are expected to have publications or invited revisions in top-ranked journals.
• Experience presenting at leading conferences in the field.
• Willingness and ability to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
• A demonstrated commitment to service contribution to the university.

Building upon decades of steadfast investment in quantum technologies and research, Canada has solidified its position as a global frontrunner in this field, boasting a flourishing ecosystem of top-tier quantum expertise centers situated within universities and enterprises across the country. Notably, the University of Calgary recently inaugurated the Quantum City, a cutting-edge technology hub poised to propel Calgary into the spotlight as a true “quantum capital city”. Spanning disciplines from nanotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI) to quantum internet and biomedical engineering, Calgary emerges as a fertile ground for pioneering quantum innovations.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Develop and maintain a high-impact research program in Quantum Finance and/or FinTech;
• Publish in leading academic journals;
• Engage in outreach and collaboration with academic, industry, and policy communities;
• Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in related areas;
• Provide service to the university and the academic profession consistent with the rank of Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant culture of management education, research, and innovation. The Haskayne School of Business is home to the Decentralized Finance Laboratory, a hub for FinTech research, education, and experiential learning. The Lab serves as a platform connecting researchers and students with the financial services industry, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. Haskayne is emerging as one of North America’s leading business schools specializing in FinTech, with a distinctive focus on digital platforms, blockchain, and central bank digital currencies. The addition of faculty with expertise in quantum technologies will further enhance our FinTech research group and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
