Key Duties

The Franchise Tax Board is seeking a Tax Technician to join the National Business Audit Program in Houston. Reporting to an Administrator III, this role involves providing administrative and paraprofessional support for audit operations.

The Tax Technician will:

• Answer taxpayer inquiries by phone and in person, providing clear guidance and support.
• Handle incoming and outgoing mail and maintain office supplies.
• Assist auditors and supervisors in case preparation, data collection, and report generation.
• Research, identify, and organize information to support audit recommendations.
• Prepare monthly reports and other documentation to ensure smooth audit operations.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and data integrity.

Requirements

• High level of professionalism, self-motivation, and flexibility in a production-oriented environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with taxpayers and team members.
• Ability to follow instructions, adapt to changing priorities, and meet operational deadlines.
• Solid organizational and time-management skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and handling electronic data.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive taxpayer information.
• Customer-service orientation, strong work ethic, and enthusiasm for learning new processes.
