Key Duties

The Tax Auditor III position is based in the Tampa Office within the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco’s Bureau of Auditing. This role involves professional-level work performing audits and ensuring accurate reporting of taxes from alcohol and tobacco license holders. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing purchase, sales, and financial records of licensed businesses to verify reported taxes

  • Identifying discrepancies or unreported liabilities and issuing appropriate assessments

  • Evaluating business transactions and documenting audit findings in detailed reports

  • Assisting licensees with understanding reporting requirements and compliance procedures

  • Conducting product inventories and analyzing financial databases to ensure accuracy

  • Recommending cases for further review or investigation when irregularities are identified

Requirements
  • At least two years of professional experience in auditing or accounting

  • Valid State of Florida driver’s license (required by appointment)

  • Willingness to use a personal vehicle for travel (mileage reimbursed at $0.445 per mile)

  • Strong knowledge of accounting methods, tax auditing principles, and financial data analysis

  • Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field with at least five accounting courses
