Key Duties

The Supervisor, Laboratory Services leads operations within the Toxicology Lab, providing technical and managerial oversight to laboratory personnel. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and guiding laboratory technologists in test performance, reviewing preliminary results, and ensuring accurate reporting

  • Managing laboratory supplies, requisitions, and inventory

  • Coordinating training, competency assessments, and evaluations for lab staff

  • Supporting scheduling, hiring, and performance management, including disciplinary actions

  • Overseeing quality assurance, proficiency testing, and regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to CLIA and institutional policies

  • Conducting complex toxicology testing on blood and urine samples using advanced analytical techniques such as GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS

  • Performing data analysis, method validation, and QC preparation while maintaining accurate records in LIS systems

  • Assisting with method development, instrumentation maintenance, and troubleshooting

  • Collaborating with medical, research, and departmental teams to ensure accurate patient results and effective laboratory operations

Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Licensure: Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel Supervisor License (Clinical Chemistry Specialty)

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in a clinical laboratory setting; supervisory experience preferred; certification in toxicology or clinical chemistry desirable

  • Skills: Strong leadership, management, and analytical abilities; proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and software platforms (MassHunter®, Sunquest, UChart, Microsoft Office); knowledge of QA/QC processes, regulatory requirements, and laboratory safety
