Role & Responsibilities
As a Sports Assistant, you will support the delivery of PE lessons and sporting activities across the school day. You’ll assist teaching staff, run small-group exercises, help supervise lunchtime games, and contribute to after-school sports clubs where needed.
Key Duties

Assist PE Lessons
Support teachers during PE sessions, helping set up equipment, demonstrate exercises, and encourage children to participate fully. -
Lunchtime and Playground Activities
Organise and oversee sports-based games or structured play during break and lunch, modelling fair play and good sportsmanship. -
After-School Clubs
Help lead sports clubs such as football, netball, gymnastics, or multi-skills, ensuring pupils enjoy varied and inclusive activities. -
Encouraging Participation
Motivate pupils of all abilities, including those less confident in sports, ensuring everyone feels safe, supported, and involved. -
Equipment & Safety
Check and organise sports equipment, keep storage areas tidy, and follow health and safety procedures during sessions. -
Support Events
Assist with sports days, inter-school competitions, or active themed events throughout the school year.
Qualifications & Skills

Experience with Children
Experience working with primary-aged children in a school, club, or community sports context is preferred. -
Sports or Coaching Background
A coaching qualification (e.g. FA, UKCC, or similar) or experience playing or coaching sport is advantageous. -
Communication Skills
Ability to communicate clearly and encourage children positively. -
Team Player
Collaborates well with teaching staff and can take direction while also showing initiative. -
Energy and Enthusiasm
Passionate about physical activity and able to engage children in a fun and structured way. -
Safeguarding Awareness
Understanding safeguarding and child protection principles. Must be willing to undergo a DBS check.

Pay and Hours

Salary: £24,000–£25,000 (pro rata for part time and term time only)

Schedule: Part-time during term times, typically across school mornings, lunchtimes, and potentially some after-school club sessions.
