Job description For Science Graduate Teaching Assistant

Step Into Teaching are supporting a secondary school in Northampton with Science Graduates Teaching Assistants.

The requirements for the post of an Science academic are a 2:2 or above Science Hons and the communicative ability to relay your Science knowledge to an array of pupils from a wide variety of backgrounds.

The Opportunity:
• Science Graduate Teaching Assistant
• March 2025 start
• Must hold a 2:2 or above Hons degree
• Monday to Friday – Full-Time
• Secondary School, Central Northampton, Northamptonshire
• £480 – £530 per week
• Ideally suited for aspiring teachers

The successful graduate must:
• A recent graduate with a degree in a science-related subject (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
• A passion for science and a desire to help students understand and enjoy the subject.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Previous , tutoring, or mentoring capacity, is desirable but not essential.
• A positive and proactive attitude, with a strong commitment to students’ learning and wellbeing.
• A desire to pursue a career in teaching (Qualified Teacher Status – QTS) is an advantage but not required.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in the delivery of science lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support for students who need additional help with their science studies.
• Help prepare and set up science resources and equipment for practical lessons.
• Monitor and track students’ progress, providing feedback to the class teacher.
• Support students during practical experiments, ensuring they follow safety protocols.
• Assist with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Help with the marking of student work and providing constructive feedback where necessary.
• Contribute to the development of lesson plans and teaching resources.
• Attend meetings and participate in professional development activities to enhance .
