Job description

Dr Peter Mulhair at the University of Liverpool https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/people/peter-mulhair seeks a grade 5 research technician with experience in molecular biology and insect biology to assist in a project exploring how insects have adapted to living in freshwater. The primary duties will be insect husbandry to maintain lab populations of hoverflies, perform molecular experiments, sampling wild insects in the field where needed, and keep high quality records.

You will work in a collegial, supportive environment, contribute to lab meetings and journal clubs if desired, and, have the opportunity for onward training of new skills and techniques.

You should have a BTEC Higher Level (or equivalent) in a relevant field.

This is a fixed term post, available from 6 September 2025 until 6 March 2028. Full-time work of 35 hours per week, with normal working hours Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm and a 1-hour lunch break – some flexibility as agreed with the Principal Investigator/Line Manager.
