Key Duties

The Registered Nurse Supervisor provides professional leadership and oversight of nursing staff within assigned units at Northeast Florida State Hospital. This role combines clinical expertise with administrative supervision to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care for residents with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and guiding nursing and direct care personnel, including hiring, training, evaluating, and providing performance feedback

  • Overseeing the delivery of care, ensuring accurate documentation, timely medication administration, and adherence to individualized resident care plans

  • Monitoring staff licensure, continuing education, and competency requirements

  • Conducting periodic rounds to assess resident care quality, safety, and adherence to hospital protocols

  • Managing emergency interventions, including medical, psychiatric, and crisis situations

  • Assisting in scheduling, resource allocation, and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for patient care

  • Supporting staff development through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating continuing education

Requirements
  • Education: Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Florida (per Statute 464)

  • Experience: Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience

  • Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication abilities; capable of supervising and motivating a diverse team

  • Knowledge: Nursing principles, human anatomy, patient care evaluation, and emergency response protocols

  • Other: Ability to work independently, exercise judgment in complex situations, and comply with all hospital, state, and federal regulations
