Key Duties
The Legal Records Administrator supports the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHIP) by overseeing the integrity and compliance of legal patient records. This role serves as a liaison between CMHIP, Colorado Courts, attorneys, law enforcement, and outside medical providers. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and verifying court orders related to criminal proceedings and mental health commitments.
- Maintaining accurate legal documentation in electronic health record systems (BEHR and Legacy Cube).
- Drafting and processing involuntary medication petitions, civil certifications, and related legal documents.
- Coordinating admission and discharge procedures in compliance with state statutes.
- Preparing reports, correspondence, and court notifications for attorneys, district courts, and clinical teams.
- Serving on hospital committees such as Admissions and Forensic Oversight, ensuring compliance with statutes and policies.
- Supervising and guiding administrative staff in legal documentation processes.
- Managing data systems, licenses, and compliance reports.
Requirements
- Experience: At least seven (7) years of relevant experience in legal records, healthcare administration, or related fields.
- Education/Experience Combination: Equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling seven years may be accepted.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of HIPAA and Colorado Revised Statute 27-65 compliance.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive legal and medical information accurately.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Conditions of Employment:
- Must successfully complete CMHIP orientation and required training (including defensive tactics and CPR).
- Ability to perform physical interventions when necessary.
- TB screening and annual flu vaccination required.
- Must be able to work in environments with varying noise, temperature, and potential exposure to assaultive behavior.
