The Role & Responsibilities

As a Primary Librarian, you will play a vital role in shaping students’ reading experiences, supporting teachers, and maintaining the library as a dynamic learning hub. This position requires a proactive approach to library management, curriculum alignment, and student engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Library Management: Organize and maintain the library’s collection of books, digital resources, and learning materials to ensure accessibility and ease of use for students and staff.
Curriculum Support: Collaborate with primary teachers to integrate reading materials and library resources into lesson plans, enhancing literacy development across subjects.
Student Engagement: Encourage and develop a love of reading among primary students through interactive storytelling, reading programs, and library events.
Resource Development: Assess and acquire new books, educational tools, and digital content to meet curriculum needs and student interests.
Digital Literacy: Support students and teachers in accessing and using digital library systems and e-resources, fostering information literacy skills.

Qualifications

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field is required.
Additional certifications in literacy instruction or information management are advantageous.

Professional Experience

Previous experience as a librarian, particularly in an educational setting, is highly desirable.
Familiarity with the British curriculum and primary education frameworks is preferred.
Experience with digital library systems, cataloguing, and research tools will enhance effectiveness in this role.
