Key Duties
The OPS Automotive Equipment Mechanic I performs maintenance, repair, and fabrication of various automotive and heavy-duty equipment for the Florida Forest Service. Key responsibilities include:

Installing electrical, hydraulic, and lighting components on wildland engines, trucks, and transport vehicles.

Performing major and minor repairs on gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, including engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, and suspension systems.

Assisting with surface preparation, undercoating, primer, and paint application for vehicles and equipment.

Applying vinyl striping, decals, and identification markings to vehicles.

Using specialized fabrication tools such as welders, cutting torches, and metal shaping equipment.

Preparing accurate work orders for all labor, parts, and materials used and assisting in field purchases.

Maintaining accountability for tools, test equipment, and materials.

Supporting supervisors in tracking work completed by other team members.

Performing additional related duties as assigned, including emergency response and travel for work as needed.
Requirements

Minimum of six months experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair, or completion of a relevant technical school program.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge of automotive systems, hydraulic systems, and fabrication techniques.

Ability to perform mechanical repairs, maintain safety standards, and work independently.

Occasional travel and availability to respond to emergencies may be required.
Pay & Benefits

Hourly wage: $17.00.
