The Music Instructor will deliver engaging, age-appropriate music lessons for children and teens at the Flatbush YMCA. This role focuses on fostering creativity, building confidence, and developing music skills in a safe and inclusive environment. Core responsibilities include:
- Designing and teaching progressive music lessons tailored to participants’ skill levels.
- Providing supervision and ensuring all activities meet YMCA program standards.
- Teaching music theory, instrument fundamentals, and preparing students for recitals, auditions, and performances.
- Modifying lessons as needed to accommodate varying learning styles and abilities.
- Encouraging consistent participation and creating a supportive classroom environment.
- Communicating regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and upcoming opportunities.
- Maintaining attendance records, ensuring program space cleanliness, and following emergency procedures.
- Participating in staff meetings, training sessions, and YMCA events.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (college coursework preferred).
- Minimum one year of successful teaching experience with children or teens.
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument (ability to teach multiple instruments preferred).
- Strong knowledge of music theory; classical and/or jazz training highly desirable.
- Effective communication skills with both youth and parents.
- Performance experience is a plus.
- Must be available Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
- Competitive hourly pay of $35 – $50.
