The Indigenous Health Programs Branch works to advance health equity by fostering respectful partnerships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. We are seeking a collaborative, relationship-driven professional to help improve Indigenous health outcomes and reduce disparities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations in Alberta.
Role Responsibilities

The Manager, Indigenous Community Engagement & Programs will lead strategic and operational initiatives that support the delivery of high-quality services to Indigenous communities across Treaty 7, Treaty 8, and the Métis Settlements General Council (MSGC) regions. This leadership role is essential to ensuring culturally appropriate, community-informed, and responsive health services for Indigenous people in Albertans. You will manage a high-performing team, foster strong relationships with First Nations and Métis communities, and lead service excellence, operational planning, project delivery, and program evaluation.

The job responsibilities include:

1. Service Delivery Excellence
•Develop and implement engagement strategies to strengthen relationships with Treaty 7, Treaty 8, Métis Nation of Alberta, and MSGC stakeholders.
•Oversee daily operations, ensuring standards of excellence in service delivery and communication.
•Monitor workloads, adjust resources, and supervise program services staff.
•Act as a key liaison for Indigenous leaders, intergovernmental partners, and internal stakeholders.

2. Operations & Regulatory Services
•Lead the unit’s operational planning and compliance with Government of Alberta (GoA) policies.
•Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on service implementation, risks, and resource allocation.

3. Project and Event Management
•Design and manage strategic projects and events from concept to execution, including resource planning and stakeholder engagement.
•Support change management initiatives across the Division.
•Develop project templates, set timelines, and track outcomes aligned with Division goals.

4. Leadership & Accountability
•Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture.
•Supervise, coach, and mentor program staff and interns.
•Manage staffing needs, performance evaluations, and succession planning.
•Represent the Director and the Division on ministry-wide initiatives, working groups, and cross-sector partnerships.

5. Quality Assurance & Evaluation
•Develop performance measures and conduct regular evaluations of service delivery.
•Use data to support continuous improvement and evidence-based policy development.
•Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance programs and achieve public health outcomes for Indigenous populations.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards
University graduation in a field related to health and social sciences, supplemented by four years related experience.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The following experience is required:
•Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including Indigenous communities. Preference is given to candidates with experience living or working in an Indigenous community.

The following experience is considered as assets:
•Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with ability to timely and effectively resolve issues.
•Strong relationship building skills to work with content providers across the Ministry to ensure revisions are completed as needed in a timely manner.
•Demonstrated expertise leading teams to develop and implement business processes and best practices.
•Experience in consensus building and fostering strong, collaborative, and sustainable partnerships to achieve objectives.
•Experience working in a high-profile, dynamic operation, where agility, collaboration and creative problem solving is required.

Hours of work are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week.
