Key Duties

The Lab Specialist supports the Visual Art department by maintaining the operation of laboratories and learning spaces. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and organizing lab materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Assisting faculty and students with technical support for courses and programs, including orientation and training.

  • Ensuring laboratory safety through proper handling of materials, maintaining MSDS records, and training students on safety procedures.

  • Performing routine inventory, minor repairs, calibration, and scheduling preventative maintenance for lab equipment.

  • Serving as a liaison with vendors for quotes, purchases, and equipment support.

  • Monitoring lab activity, maintaining a clean and secure environment, and overseeing assigned staff or assistants.

  • Collaborating with faculty on scheduling, lab support services, and instructional needs.

  • Maintaining accurate records, managing budgets within allocation, and delivering excellent customer service to all campus stakeholders.

Requirements
  • Associate degree plus one year of relevant work or teaching experience, or two years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.

  • Strong knowledge of lab operations, equipment, and information systems.

  • Proficiency in computer technology for record-keeping, reporting, and communication.

  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills.

  • Ability to follow safety protocols, comply with policies, and provide effective customer service.

  • Bilingual skills preferred; some positions may require specific licenses or certifications.

  • Successful completion of criminal background check; some positions may require fingerprinting.
