Key Duties

As a Highway Maintenance Specialist, you’ll contribute directly to roadway safety and infrastructure upkeep. Your work will vary daily depending on weather, traffic, and emergency needs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Plowing snow, sanding, and responding to weather-related emergencies.

  • Operating heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, and mowers.

  • Performing roadway repairs including filling potholes, patching asphalt, and repairing guardrails.

  • Clearing debris, maintaining culverts, and removing obstacles from highways.

  • Setting up traffic control signage and assisting with safe traffic flow during incidents.

  • Completing routine equipment checks and minor repairs.

  • Supporting safety programs and following protective gear requirements.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least two years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.

  • Valid CDL Class A or B Permit (or full CDL) with the ability to obtain a full license within 90 days of hire.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug test and physical.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating commercial vehicles or heavy machinery.

  • Strong focus on safety and teamwork.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing weather and road conditions.

  • Commitment to problem-solving and customer service.

Work Conditions:

  • Exposure to extreme weather, heights, loud noise, and hazardous materials.

  • Required to be on-call for emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Must live within 30 minutes of assigned worksite.

Pay & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $53,400 annually ($25.67/hour, overtime $38.50/hour).

  • Schedule: Standard 40-hour weeks, with seasonal 4-day/10-hour schedules in summer.
