Key Duties

As a Designer, Systems, you will:

• Develop design concepts, technical analyses, and detailed design documentation for subway and surface systems.

• Prepare drawings, material lists, estimates, specifications, and schedules for installation, rehabilitation, and emergency projects.

• Oversee design work by contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure compliance with TTC standards.

• Conduct feasibility studies, system evaluations, and testing of new or existing components.

• Investigate and troubleshoot operational problems, recommending design changes or alternative solutions.

• Assist in preparing budgets, cost estimates, procurement documents, and evaluating tenders.

• Provide design review feedback, technical reports, and project recommendations.

• Support field staff with technical expertise, including during emergency situations.

• Conduct audits to verify design quality, safety, and compliance.

Requirements

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering/Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Certification with OACETT is considered an asset.

• Strong knowledge of system design principles, standards, and practices.

• Experience working in the rail industry, particularly with vehicle system integration.

• Understanding of transit system regulations, safety standards, and risk management practices.

• Proficiency in MS Office and design-related software applications.

• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage complex projects and provide expert technical counsel.

• Must successfully obtain Subway Rulebook Certification.
