The Role & Responsibilities

As a Customer Support Assistant, you will serve as one of the first points of contact for the public—providing information, guiding residents to the correct services, and handling a variety of queries.

Frontline Customer Service

  • Assist Residents at Reception or via Phone
    Greet visitors and answer phone calls in a friendly, professional manner, directing enquiries appropriately or providing information directly.

  • Provide Information and Signposting
    Help residents navigate Council services such as housing support, benefits, libraries, or social care by providing accurate information and referring them to relevant teams.

Administrative Support Tasks

  • Data Entry and Record Management
    Update client information and service logs using Council systems, ensuring records are accurate and confidential.

  • Documentation Support
    Help customers complete forms and applications, ensuring required documents are collected and submitted correctly.

Community Interaction

  • Handle Public Feedback
    Receive compliments or complaints, logging them appropriately and escalating concerns to supervisors when necessary.

  • Support Outreach or Council Events
    Assist in local events or community outreach when required, helping to promote Council services and fostering positive public engagement.


Qualifications

  • Previous Customer Service Experience
    Experience in public service, retail, reception, libraries, or administration is valuable.

  • Excellent Communication Skills
    Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of people, both in person and over the phone.

  • IT and Administrative Skills
    Proficiency with email, basic computer systems, and confident in learning Council database software.

  • Organisation & Accuracy
    Able to manage multiple tasks, update records responsibly, and handle sensitive information discreetly.
