The Role & Responsibilities

As a Health and Safety Consultant at WSP, your primary responsibilities will include:

Health and Safety Assessments and Audits

Conduct comprehensive health and safety assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and risks within client operations. This involves evaluating workplace environments, processes, and practices to ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards.

Development and Implementation of Safety Management Systems

Assist clients in developing, implementing, and maintaining effective Health and Safety Management Systems (HSMS) that align with ISO 45001 standards. This includes creating policies, procedures, and safe work practices that promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Training and Capacity Building

Design and deliver tailored training programs to enhance the health and safety awareness and competencies of client staff. Topics may include risk assessment techniques, emergency response procedures, and safe work practices, ensuring that employees are equipped to manage safety effectively.

Incident Investigation and Reporting

Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. Prepare detailed reports that document findings and propose measures to prevent recurrence, contributing to continuous improvement in safety performance.

Regulatory Compliance and Reporting

Stay abreast of local and international health and safety regulations and ensure that clients’ operations comply with all relevant laws. Provide guidance on regulatory requirements and assist in preparing documentation for inspections and audits by regulatory authorities.


Qualifications

To be considered for the Health and Safety Consultant position, candidates should possess:

Educational Background

  • A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

Professional Certifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent.

  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.

  • Additional certifications such as ISO 45001 Lead Auditor or ISO 14001 are advantageous.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 to 6 years of experience in health and safety consultancy, preferably within the Middle East region.

  • Proven track record in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and developing safety management systems.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with safety management software and tools.

  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable.
