Key Duties

As a City Laborer reporting to the Facilities Maintenance unit, you will engage in essential hands-on work to support the maintenance of the city’s elevated infrastructure. Core responsibilities include:

  • Performing physically demanding tasks such as moving, lifting, and carrying materials of varying weight and size.

  • Assisting with general maintenance and repair operations using hand and power tools.

  • Operating motor vehicles when required to support work assignments.

  • Completing other duties as assigned under supervision to ensure efficient operations of city facilities.

Requirements
  • No formal education or prior experience is required, but candidates must meet medical and physical standards.

  • A valid New York State Motor Vehicle Driver License is necessary.

  • Must meet New York City residency requirements within 90 days of appointment, with certain exceptions for long-term City employees.
