Key Duties

The Building Engineer will oversee the maintenance and management of YMCA facilities, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and safety systems are functioning properly. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising daily operations of HVAC, heating, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
  • Maintaining preventive maintenance schedules and performing repairs, upgrades, or replacements as needed.
  • Managing records for energy usage, fire safety inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinating with contractors, vendors, and internal staff for building repairs, renovations, and capital projects.
  • Preparing payroll, purchase orders, invoices, and managing procurement of supplies and equipment.
  • Implementing energy conservation initiatives and maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and city property regulations.
  • Assisting in emergency response situations and executing evacuation procedures when necessary.
  • Supporting staff training on safety, pool maintenance, and facility upkeep programs.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with members, staff, and vendors, while demonstrating professionalism and respect in all interactions.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in building maintenance, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of NYC electrical, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, boiler, and pool systems.
  • Proficiency in general building construction, maintenance, carpentry, painting, and energy conservation practices.
  • Willingness to obtain necessary certifications, such as Fire Alarm Systems S95, Sprinkler S12, and Fire & Emergency Drill Conductor F-07/W-07, within 90 days of hire.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
