Key Duties

The Colorado Department of Revenue is seeking a skilled Background Investigator to perform thorough investigations for the Marijuana Enforcement Division. This role focuses on evaluating applicants and entities to ensure compliance, suitability, and integrity within the regulated industry. Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and conducting complex, multi-jurisdictional investigations.
  • Reviewing tax records, financial documents, and civil and criminal histories.
  • Assessing accuracy of disclosures and identifying potential fraud or misrepresentation.
  • Gathering reputation information and conducting interviews with relevant parties.
  • Preparing comprehensive written reports detailing findings and presenting them to the Marijuana Enforcement Division Director or designated staff.
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to verify information and ensure investigative completeness.
Requirements
  • Experience in investigative work, law enforcement, auditing, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex information accurately.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and thorough reports.
  • Attention to detail, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks related to financial and criminal investigations is desirable.
