Alberta Technology and Innovation plays a strategic role within government to drive technology and innovation policy and strategy, and to create programs and tools that help grow Alberta’s economy, modernize government and provide better, faster and smarter government programs, services, and information. Role

Reporting to the Deputy Minister (DM), Technology & Innovation, the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) Technology and Support Operations fulfills the role of Chief Information Officer for the GoA and is thereby accountable to the DM and responsible for the delivery of the Government of Alberta’s (GoA) technology services whose function underpin and enable daily business operations in all Ministries and ongoing connectivity to all GoA services.

The Chief Information Officer strategically manages and integrates three diverse branches whose functions provide:
• * Foundational business technology operations and platforms which hosts legacy application systems, digital and data systems;
• Overall provisioning of infrastructure and productivity tools which deliver flexible and innovative end using computing services for all ministries;
• Strategic direction and implementation for the provincial Broadband Strategy; and
• Cross division services for procurement, integrated strategic and financial planning which are aligned with Data and Digital strategies.

The ADM also develops specific plans, measures, initiatives and strategies to move forward the government agenda for technology and operational supports provided to all GoA ministries and to Albertans. The ADM connects and develops integrated models and approaches across the division, the ministry, and with partner organizations to strengthen and leverage opportunities to identify and address barriers and enablers to achievement of ministry and GoA priorities, and enhances innovation in system approaches and plans. Collectively, this work contributes to the provision of advanced data and digital service as and when needed by Albertans, ministries, agencies, and industry.

The ADM provides strategic leadership and direction to the Technology and Support Operations Division in alignment with the ministry’s goals and government priorities. Ministry directions and initiatives are shaped through the ADMs participation on the department’s Executive Team.

Qualifications
Success in this role calls for a progressive leader, with a background that includes extensive related executive management leadership experience, preferably in large organizations. You also bring a deep understanding of large organizational systems and decision-making processes. Additionally, you possess demonstrated expertise in emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, automation, and data analytics, with a proven ability to assess, implement, and scale these technologies in a complex organization. You have a reputation of being highly digital literate and have applied knowledge of flexible, modern digital infrastructure.

Exceptional communication skills, combined with advanced political acumen and ability to influence diverse groups will situate you well for success in this role. You are also a visionary leader, with demonstrated success motivating and engaging people to embrace a future -thinking, continuous innovation mindset. You have a proven track record developing organizational capacity for the future. Related post-secondary education is preferred.
