Key Duties

The Agriculture and Consumer Protection Specialist ensures consumer trust by enforcing state regulations related to weights, measures, and petroleum products. Core responsibilities include:

• Inspecting and testing weighing and measuring devices for accuracy and compliance

• Recording and reporting inspection results, violations, and corrective actions

• Maintaining and operating specialized equipment such as test trucks and weight-moving tools

• Conducting inspections of packaged goods, petroleum products, and related consumer commodities

• Investigating complaints and suspected violations, providing findings to supervisors and consumers

• Assisting with training, certification of repair technicians, and public education on regulations

• Supporting enforcement by testifying in legal proceedings when required

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Valid Florida Class E driver’s license

Additional Requirements

• Ability to travel extensively, sometimes for extended periods during emergency programs

• Successful completion of background screening and fingerprinting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday

• Capability to work outdoors in varied weather and on uneven terrain

• Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills

• Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and walk for long periods during inspections
