Key Duties
The Agriculture and Consumer Protection Specialist ensures consumer trust by enforcing state regulations related to weights, measures, and petroleum products. Core responsibilities include:

Inspecting and testing weighing and measuring devices for accuracy and compliance
-
Recording and reporting inspection results, violations, and corrective actions
-
Maintaining and operating specialized equipment such as test trucks and weight-moving tools
-
Conducting inspections of packaged goods, petroleum products, and related consumer commodities
-
Investigating complaints and suspected violations, providing findings to supervisors and consumers
-
Assisting with training, certification of repair technicians, and public education on regulations
-
Supporting enforcement by testifying in legal proceedings when required
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Valid Florida Class E driver’s license
Additional Requirements
-
Ability to travel extensively, sometimes for extended periods during emergency programs
-
Successful completion of background screening and fingerprinting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-
Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday
-
Capability to work outdoors in varied weather and on uneven terrain
-
Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
-
Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and walk for long periods during inspections
