Al Ain University (AAU) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Lab Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations of its engineering laboratories. In this full-time role, you will ensure that laboratories are fully functional, safely maintained, and optimized for student learning. You’ll support faculty and students through practical experiments, prepare lab materials, and contribute to a collaborative academic environment that drives innovation and excellence.

The Role & Responsibilities

As a Lab Supervisor, your contributions will be foundational to smooth academic operations and student success. You will manage logistics, equipment, and safety, enabling students to apply theory through hands-on experiments.

Lab Operations & Maintenance

  • Ensure labs are fully operational before sessions, maintaining a safe and organized learning space.

  • Calibrate, test, and maintain equipment like compression frames, triaxial systems, flow channels, and surveying instruments to uphold accuracy.

Student Support & Instructional Assistance

  • Guide students in performing experiments, such as concrete mix tests, soil compaction, and hydraulics measurements.

  • Support faculty during practical sessions and help troubleshoot technical issues, ensuring a smooth learning experience.

Inventory Management & Documentation

  • Monitor supplies, order consumables, and maintain accurate records of equipment and materials.

  • Follow institutional protocols for laboratory safety, storage, and waste disposal to comply with regulations.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Implement standardized procedures in line with ASTM, ACI, and university guidelines.

  • Oversee the application of correct testing techniques and methodology consistency.

Facility Development & Team Collaboration

  • Assist with setup and supervision of lab-based projects and engineering competition preparations.

  • Coordinate across departments to ensure alignment between instructional objectives and lab capabilities.

Qualifications

Academic & Professional Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

  • Prior experience in academic lab settings or engineering environments strongly preferred.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Familiarity with engineering testing protocols, especially in materials, soil mechanics, hydraulics, and surveying domains.

  • Proficiency in using scientific and engineering measurement tools and data recording techniques.

Additional Competencies

  • Effective communication skills to interact with students, faculty, and vendors.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing demands.

  • Proficiency in English; Arabic language skills are a plus.
