The Role & Responsibilities
As a Payroll Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll for employees across different teams. This role goes beyond processing numbers—it’s about upholding trust and maintaining smooth internal operations.
Core Responsibilities

Manage Payroll Processing
Participate in the preparation of weekly and monthly payrolls, ensuring accurate calculation of salaries, statutory deductions, and overtime hours. -
Maintain Employee Data
Input and update employee data into payroll and HR systems, including new hires, contract changes, and terminations, helping HR maintain accurate records. -
Handle Payroll Queries
Serve as the first point of contact for payroll-related questions, offering clear and helpful responses to employees across the business. -
Ensure Statutory Compliance
Support HMRC reporting and submissions, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, pension requirements, and year-end processing. -
Collaborate with Internal Teams
Work alongside HR and finance colleagues to resolve discrepancies and suggest improvements to streamline payroll processes.
Required Qualifications

Experience in Payroll or Finance Administration
Prior experience in payroll or within a finance or HR team is strongly preferred, allowing you to navigate payroll duties with confidence. -
Familiarity with Payroll Systems
Knowledge of payroll software (such as Sage, ADP, or similar tools) helps you work efficiently and accurately from day one. -
Understanding of UK Payroll Legislation
A working knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and statutory payments ensures compliance and accuracy in payroll output. -
Strong Numerical and Analytical Ability
Precision with numbers and an eye for detail enable you to spot inconsistencies and resolve them proactively. -
Excellent Communication Skills
