The Role & Responsibilities

The Community Relations Assistant will support the university’s efforts to strengthen relationships with students, faculty, alumni, and external stakeholders. This role requires excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills to ensure that all community-related activities are executed effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Coordinate and assist in planning community events, workshops, and outreach programs that strengthen the university’s connection with its stakeholders.

  • Act as a primary point of contact for students, faculty, alumni, and community members, providing timely and accurate information.

  • Support initiatives that foster collaboration between departments, clubs, and external organizations.

Communication and Coordination

  • Draft, edit, and distribute newsletters, emails, and social media updates to engage the university community and promote upcoming events.

  • Maintain records of community interactions, feedback, and participation to inform future initiatives and improve engagement strategies.

  • Collaborate with university departments to ensure consistency and alignment in messaging and community outreach efforts.

Administrative Support

  • Assist in preparing materials for community events, including presentations, informational handouts, and signage.

  • Schedule meetings, manage calendars, and support the logistical arrangements of university-hosted programs.

  • Maintain accurate databases of community contacts and track engagement metrics.

Reporting and Evaluation

  • Monitor the effectiveness of community initiatives and provide insights and recommendations for improvement.

  • Generate periodic reports summarizing activities, outcomes, and stakeholder feedback.

  • Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures in all engagement and reporting activities.


Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

  • Relevant coursework or certifications in community relations, event management, or stakeholder engagement is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email communication platforms.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and online community engagement tools.

  • Strong writing and editing skills for professional communication and documentation.

Work Experience

  • Prior experience in community relations, public relations, event coordination, or administrative support is highly valued.

  • Experience working in higher education or a multicultural environment is an advantage.
